It involves running new wiring and setting up the switching, ideally planned so the cabling is run cleanly through the ceiling space with minimal disruption. In an established home, knowing how to work with existing ceiling and wall cavities makes all the difference to a tidy result.

Get the switching right

How you control the fan matters for how you actually live with it. Whether it's a wall control, a separate switch for the light, or speed control, it's worth setting up properly from the start so it works the way you expect every time.
