This job was at a house in Upper Hermitage for an existing client, where the switchboard still had older Type AC safety switches protecting only some of the circuits. A number of the circuits were completely unprotected, which is quite common in older switchboards.

We upgraded the switchboard so that every circuit in the house is now protected by its own RCBO. This means each circuit now has both overload protection and safety protection rather than multiple circuits sharing a single device.

Upgrading the board this way improves safety and also prevents one fault from shutting down large sections of the house. If a circuit trips now, it will only affect that individual circuit rather than the whole group.

The work was carried out under the watchful eye of the homeowner’s dog Goldie, who took the role of apprentice very seriously.
