Dynamic Load Balancing for EV Chargers in Adelaide's North East

Dynamic load balancing allows your EV charger to automatically adjust its charging speed based on how much electricity your home is using. Instead of upgrading your electrical supply straight away, many homes can safely charge an EV by intelligently managing the available power.

I install dynamic load balancing systems across Adelaide's North East, helping homeowners get the most from their EV charger without paying for upgrades they may not need.

What is dynamic load balancing?

Dynamic load balancing uses CT clamps installed inside your switchboard to monitor your home's electricity usage in real time.

If your home starts using more power, such as running the oven, air conditioner or electric hot water system, the EV charger automatically reduces its charging speed. Once that demand drops, the charger increases its charging rate again.

The result is safe, reliable charging while making the best use of your home's available electrical capacity.

Dynamic load balancing could be right for you if you...

  • Have limited electrical capacity at home
  • Have been told you may need a mains or switchboard upgrade
  • Want to avoid unnecessary upgrade costs
  • Have multiple high powered appliances
  • Want to future proof your EV charging installation
  • Want your charger to automatically adjust as your home's electrical demand changes

What's involved in installing dynamic load balancing?

Along with installing your EV charger, I'll fit CT clamps inside your switchboard and run the required monitoring cable back to the charger.

These CT clamps measure your home's electrical demand in real time, allowing the charger to automatically adjust its charging speed as other appliances are switched on and off.

Once everything is installed, I'll configure the charger, test the load balancing system and make sure it's responding correctly. Once the job is complete, you'll receive a Certificate of Compliance.

Dynamic load balancing in established homes

Many established homes across Adelaide's North East were built long before electric vehicles were a thought. Rather than immediately upgrading the electrical supply, dynamic load balancing can often provide a practical alternative by making better use of the capacity that's already available.

Every installation is different, so I'll assess your existing switchboard and electrical supply before recommending the most suitable solution.

Why choose Lucid Electrical for dynamic load balancing?

Dynamic load balancing isn't simply another feature to switch on. It needs to be designed, installed and configured correctly to work safely with your home's electrical system.

I'll explain whether dynamic load balancing is the right solution for your home, install the required monitoring equipment and make sure everything is operating as intended before the installation is complete.

If a supply upgrade is genuinely needed, I'll explain why. If it isn't, I won't recommend unnecessary work.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is dynamic load balancing?

Dynamic load balancing automatically adjusts your EV charger's charging speed based on how much electricity your home is using at the time.

Will dynamic load balancing slow my charging?

Only when your home is using a lot of electricity. Once the demand drops, your charger automatically increases its charging speed again.

Can dynamic load balancing avoid a switchboard upgrade?

In many homes, yes. Every installation is different, so I'll assess your electrical system before recommending the best solution.

How does the charger know how much power my home is using?

CT clamps installed inside your switchboard measure your home's electrical demand in real time, allowing the charger to automatically adjust its charging speed.

Does every EV charger support dynamic load balancing?

No. This feature depends on the charger model. I'll recommend equipment that's compatible with your home and your charging requirements.

Do I receive compliance paperwork?

Yes. Every installation is completed in accordance with Australian Standards, and I provide a Certificate of Compliance. Where SAPN notifications or approvals are required, I'll take care of those as well.
