Solar Compatible EV Charger Installation in Adelaide's North East

If you already have solar, a compatible EV charger can do much more than simply charge your car. Many smart chargers can prioritise your excess solar generation, helping you use more of the power you're producing instead of exporting it back to the grid.

I install solar compatible EV chargers across Adelaide's North East, making sure everything is configured properly so your charger works with your solar system, not just alongside it.

Make the most of your solar

Installing a solar compatible EV charger allows your electric vehicle to charge using excess solar generation whenever it's available. Instead of sending that electricity back to the grid for a low feed in tariff, you can use it to charge your car.

Many smart chargers can automatically adjust their charging speed based on how much solar your system is producing. When they're installed and configured correctly, charging happens in the background with very little input from you.

A solar compatible charger could be right for you

  • You already have rooftop solar
  • You want to charge using your own solar generation
  • You'd like to reduce electricity costs
  • You want to use less electricity from the grid
  • You're installing a new EV charger and want to make the most of your solar investment
  • You'd like charging to happen automatically when excess solar is available

What's involved in installing a solar compatible EV charger

Installing a solar compatible charger involves more than just mounting it on the wall. Along with the dedicated circuit and protection, many installations require CT clamps to be fitted inside the switchboard. These allow the charger to monitor your home's power usage and solar generation so it can make the most of your excess solar.

Once everything is installed, I'll configure the charger, test all of the smart features and make sure everything is working as intended. Once the job is complete, you'll receive a Certificate of Compliance.

Solar EV charging in established homes

I'll check your switchboard, existing solar system and available electrical capacity before installing the charger on its own dedicated circuit with the appropriate protection.

I'll also install CT clamps and monitoring cables so the charger can measure your home's power usage and solar generation. This allows supported chargers to automatically use excess solar or adjust charging to suit your home's electrical demand.

Once everything is installed, I'll configure the charger, test the system thoroughly and make sure it's all working as intended before providing your Certificate of Compliance.

Why choose Lucid Electrical for solar EV charging

Getting the most from a solar compatible charger isn't just about mounting it on the wall. It needs to be installed correctly and configured to work with your home's electrical system and your existing solar setup.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I charge my EV directly from solar?

Yes. Many smart chargers can prioritise excess solar generation, allowing your EV to charge using the electricity your solar system is producing rather than drawing from the grid.

Will it still charge when there's no sun?

Yes. If solar generation isn't available, the charger can continue charging from the grid if you choose. Most chargers let you customise how and when this happens.

Do I need batteries for solar EV charging?

No. A battery isn't required. Many homeowners charge directly from excess solar during the day without any battery storage.

Will this work with my existing solar system?

In many cases, yes. I'll check your existing solar system and recommend a charger that's compatible with your setup before any work begins.

Do I still need a dedicated circuit?

Yes. Like any permanently installed EV charger, a solar compatible charger requires its own dedicated circuit and the appropriate protection to comply with Australian Standards.

Do I get compliance paperwork?

Yes. Every installation is completed in accordance with Australian Standards, and I provide a Certificate of Compliance. Where SAPN notifications or approvals are required for your installation, I'll take care of those as well.
