This homeowner in Modbury Heights had been having issues with their old safety switch. Another electrician had previously recommended a switchboard upgrade, and this was finally the push they needed.

We looked at replacing the entire three phase meter panel, but with the budget in mind, opted for a new load centre while retaining the existing panel.

Once I started removing the old rewireable fuses, I found some extremely brittle wiring, with sections of insulation cracking and breaking apart. I repaired the affected sections, extended the wiring to accommodate the hinged panel and replaced the old soldered earth connections with a proper earth bar.

During testing, I also discovered the main earthing conductor had corroded and broke at the earth stake, so I reterminated it and applied zinc protection.

A pretty tight and congested board to work in, but a worthwhile upgrade. The homeowner now has individual Type A RCBO protection, improved earthing and a much more serviceable switchboard.
